IPL 2026 Playoff Race — Who's In, Who's Out
Punjab Kings (11 pts, NRR +1.420) are the runaway leaders with 5 wins from 6, sitting pretty for a top-two finish. RCB, SRH and RR are all level on 8 points, separated only by NRR — this top-four cluster looks locked in provided they maintain momentum.
Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans (6 pts each) are in the mid-table danger zone — a win now puts them in playoff contention, a loss pushes them toward elimination. The most critical spot is 4th-through-8th, where three points can swing the entire playoff picture.
For MI, CSK, LSG (4 pts each), the math is getting brutal. With ~8 league games left, they need to win at least 5 of them to hit 14 points — typically the playoff cutoff. KKR (3 pts) are in deepest trouble. Defending champions must now win nearly every remaining game.
How IPL 2026 Playoffs Work
The top 4 teams at the end of the league stage (after 70 matches) qualify for the playoffs. The top 2 teams play Qualifier 1 — winner goes straight to the final. The 3rd and 4th placed teams play an Eliminator, with the winner facing the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2. The winner of Qualifier 2 meets the winner of Qualifier 1 in the IPL Final. A match win = 2 points. Net Run Rate (NRR) is the tiebreaker when teams are level on points.
